Hyperion - Dan Simmons

So, I'm rereading Dan Simmons' Hyperion series. It's pretty spectacular. The first book, Hyperion, is arranged in a sort of Canterbury Tales, with each of the main characters telling a story as they make a pilgrimage across the planet Hyperion towards the imminent danger of the Shrike. The Shrike has been credited with the brutal murders of several thousand people, and may represent the only hope humanity has against an incoming invasion of the Outsters, a pseudo-alien race bent on destroying the Hegemony of Man.
The stories of each of the pilgrims is told in a fairly different style, which is a neat trick for an author. The Detective's Tale is almost like Raymond Chandler, for example, whereas the main text is told in a surprisingly lush, yet somehow robotic way.
All in all, a great read, and one that I strongly suggest.

Coming up soon, Johannes Cabal The Necromancer by Jonathan L. Howard.
